EQUATORIAL GUINEA.
- EG is situated on the west coast of Africa.
- It is the 8th richest country on the continent with its revenue mainly derived from oil.
- EG is Africa’s only Spanish speaking country, although French and English are also widely spoken. I was there early December as an English only speaker with no problems.
THE HOSPITALS.
- LA PAZ MALABO is situated in the capital, Malabo. It was opened in 2011 as a 150 bed private / state hospital. Some of the western staff I met are still there from the opening, but the average stay is 5-6 years on 1 year renewable contracts, so senior staff turnover is small.
- LA PAZ OYALA is situated in what will be the new capital, Oyala. Although 120 beds, it is effectively a mirror image of the existing hospital, and this is where most of the new staff will be based. The President presided over a soft opening in August 2023, and the hospital will be fully operational from March 2024. It will arguably be the most modern and technically advanced hospital in Africa. British managed.
GENERAL TERMS.
- All salaries are paid free of tax in Euros.
- 3 vacations a year, each of 2 weeks paid with flight tickets to your point of origin, or cash equivalent should you wish to vacation elsewhere.
- Accommodation, fully furnished, paid in full including living expenses including all food, water, and electricity.
- Internet full coverage and phone allowance.
- Full private medical insurance paid whilst in country.
- You basically keep what you earn. This is a contract to save money.
REQUIREMENTS.
- As this is brand new hospital, the requirement for Western staff between now and the summer is obviously high. As a general summary, the hospital management will be interviewing, electronically, for ALL posts, including;
Medical Director.
Finance Director.
Maintenance Manager.
Consultants in all specialities, must have CCST or equivalent.
Specialists in all specialities, must have specialist degree.
Director of Nursing, must have international management experience
Assistant DON.
Senior Nurses in all specialities.
Charge Nurses in all specialities.
